Welcome to week 6 designers. For this task, all designers will be assigned an image prompt to a selected video game. Focusing particularly on the art style and elements of the image; using them as your inspiration, translate them into a design.

However, that’s not all, as 2 designers are assigned to each image, all designers will go head-to-head with one another. The winner of each will receive a prize of 20c this week.

Listed below are your prompts and pairings; good luck designers.

This is my favourite approach to this task this week. I find the geometric aspect of the video game to be very relevant in your design. You've highlighted certain elements in your design via colour and definitely paid homage to aspects I admire from this video game. A very fun colour palette that pays retribution to the image prompt you were given. A very good job this week.

Barbuda

I find myself not being sold on the overall aesthetic of this design. I can definitely see your inspiration and I find the colours to be gorgeous it's just the layout. I wish you showed some twists to show the ethereal side to movement underwater. My favourite element of this is the facial mask. I love that you incorporated the character into the design. Thanks.

Honestly I think your colours are the weakest part of your outfit, despite you telling us why you used them - however I’m starting with this because I really like this design, i’ll clear the bad air first (I don’t hate the colours). The balance of this outfit is gorgeous and I love the asymmetry mixed with uniformity in the outfit. You capture the image in a distinctive way; there’s a mixture of patterns which reflect the calm chaos of the picture. It works as a package and I can’t say much else because the flaws are so limited. Great job this week.

Barbuda

This is a nice attempt at incorporating the cell-shaded aspect of the chosen image, but to me this outfit feels too cold and industrial to me. I don’t really like the headpiece and the white really sticks out to me in an unpleasant manner. This outfit is undoubtedly you, it’s a bold attempt and I appreciate that but it falls a little flat. I do like the palette with the mint and blue, this isn’t all doom and gloom. There’s positive elements there, just not enough.

I liked how the palette we gave you was green and blue; a staple for you, and yet you didn't incorporate too much into the design. I really commend you on that. However I think the design though it's playing with shape and minimalism, I think it's lacking something. The use of the hat was a good risk and tied with the black bodice I find it fascinating but I wish you added a fiery element or a white feature to play off the wolf in the image. I'm not in love with the palette and I wish you stretched this further. Thanks.

Xenid

If you had removed the belt and the veil this would have been instantly better. I think the clunkiness of those accessories weighs this outfit down. I enjoy the fierce red mixed with the innocent pink. I think it ties beautifully with the image. I think a blue shoe would have blended nicely with this design. My favourite aspect of this design is the patterning you've incorporated in the chest. The petal like effect reminds me of the tree. Thanks.

I’m going to be brutally honest here, the only redeemable aspect in this design is the choice of fabrics. I hate the colours against the black. The black colour should have been used to hint at the watercolour art direction, not swallow up the design. There’s a clear momentum running down the outfit, but none of it works with the select image. The headpiece is very questionable and adds nothing to the outfit. I want to see you produce solid results, but i’m beginning to lose faith. I’m overall disappointed at how my favourite game was depicted.

Xenid

There are a lot of peculiar things going on here. The design has the serenity and tranquility of the image, but it’s all mismatched and muddled. I actually like the pink, red and white hues, but the choices of clothing let you down here. The huge clunky belt that separates the two halves just looks confused, and then the metallic of the shoes with the white streaks through it is strange. Your headpiece is actually alright, it’s clichéd and a little too obvious, but I enjoy it. Otherwise this outfit is kind of a let down, but it’s not a complete failure.

The diagonal strikes through this are mesmerizing, I think you've bounced back. There wasn't much to be said about your colour palette this week due to the prompt. However I think the illusions you've created are immaculate and grasp what this task had to offer. Maybe a step further to prod at more creativity would have landed you a top position this week  but you've still managed to create an appropriate design. I also love the earrings.

Jozinga

The mix of layering in the bodice is to be admired. I think you did a very good job in really thinking about the task first. The way the white swirls through this design remind me of the pinwheels and stars in the video game. I think you did a good job this week. I really admire the use of the blue shoe to break up the white and black of the design. You've worked outside the box. Thanks.

This outfit is akin to your week 2 win for me. It draws some parallels in terms of layout and although this reminds me of that, it’s different enough for me to enjoy. I like how instead of an erratic style of white lines you went for collected horizontal lines sweeping through a caged center. Although I do wish this outfit went a little more over the top for what the art direction shows. However it’s a nice design and has grasped ahold of my faith in you yet again.

Jozinga

You’ve very much captured the spirit of the art of this game. A simple idea of monochrome filled with light colour and zig-zag chaos - which is what you’ve incorporated into your design. I like the scattered lines amongst the sea of black; although the layout is nothing special, it's almost irrelevant due to the whole outfit being black. This is a good, pleasant design nice work.

Unexpected after a couple rough weeks from you - but your riding out this rollercoaster until the end. This is very well done. The rough textures and placements give a dystopian and mystical feel to this design that I really like. The hint of green referencing the pastures in the image, with the browns and rose gold colours taking from the trees. This is very representative of the mysterious style of your image and colour me impressed.

I love this colour palette, I think it was genius to differ from the obvious green foliage in the game and focus on the leaves and the owl itself. I thing the texturing and layering around the neck are very appropriate to the textures in the prompt. This design is very humbling. Definitely one of your best. Thanks.

Blackmama1.4

Who? Pun intended.

That's it for Week 6 designers. Overall this has been a very impressive week. We are very happy with the results. Below you will see the winning designer of each prompt highlighted in the title. We will get 20c to each of the winners ASAP. We are happy to have seen some creative designs this week. Once again I would like to reiterate you are all SAFE this week as we had a contestant withdraw. Thanks designers.

Congratulations Icearbr. You've successfully created another top design. You're improving your game as the competition narrows down. You started with a jog and now you're finishing with a sprint. This week we don't have to say goodbye to any of the competing designers as Blackmama1.4 decided it was in their best interest to withdraw from the competition; sparing everyone. Thanks for a great week.
