Welcome to Week 5 designers. This week we want to see your true reflection. Posing opposite a iridescent mirror; we want to see you shine. Using fabrics, colours, etc; create a unique design that emotes iridescence.
However, there is also a catch. We want the back of your design to be as important as the front. Good luck.

Below is an example of what the end result will look like after editing; just so you can imagine the colours/placement of your avatar in the mirror.
I See A Lot Of Myself In You

This is illuminating; I especially commend you on one of the few times I've seen the apron used effectively in this competition thus far. This design is tasteful and strong. The colour palette being so murky and dark shows iridescence on the opposite spectrum from everyone else this week. You made yourself stand out. I think the fabrics, though they are filled with so many layers that may have over powered the design; the way in which you coloured them binds them together. Creativity at its best, well done.

This is such an exquisite design. I've been waiting for you to blow me away and you've finally committed. I'm so enamoured by this; although your front is a little understated - the back of this outfit shows us all we need to see. The cascading colours reflect a darker and denser iridescence. Those selected fabrics really resonate a formless shape too; the black really separates everything whilst creating a rippling and warped effect. The front of your outfit creates a balance with its controlled structure, and then you see the exposed back, looking like fragmented crystals with an alluring colour palette. I love everything about this; call me over the top but this outfit deserves it's justice in critique. You took the task brief, and exuded iridescence in your design. One of my favourite designs of the whole long term so far, amazing work thank you.

I'm not going to flatter you too much this week. I abhor this design, I think the clothing items combined created a very distasteful silhouette that I can't look past. The colour palette, though it works in relation to the task; it's very obvious. I think you should have been more adventurous in that aspect. However, you were very adventurous on adding head accessories. I don't think a single one of them worked in your favour this week. The chest design was perhaps your strongest feature, and the gloves. Other than that I see no light or hope for this design. Thanks.

This design could have been successful, however the helmet really was a risk that didn't pay off. I think you managed to display iridescence in a unique way. The soft palette mixed with the soft fabrics looks pleasing. Although the helmet just really ruins an otherwise salvageable outfit. It is far too clunky and heavy and doesn't juxtapose the soft clothes in a good way. The layout is also nothing too special. You were on task and I actually appreciate the whole outfit neck down, but the design falls a little flat.

I by no means think this is a bad design. I see what I was looking for immediately when I see the vibrancy of the jacket and the stripe on the shoes. The use of the skirt being patterned symmetrically the whole way around made it very appropriate for a back-to-front challenge. The colour palette is there for me. However I don't like the chest design, the colours were a nice feature but you could have done something there to draw attention when looking through the mirror. You may have sealed your fate by being late this week. Losing 2 points is a rough blow, especially at this stage in the competition. You need all the points you can get when being judged. Thankyou.

I'm struggling to connect with this design. Although the sheen on the jacket would suggest an ode to iridescence the rest of this outfit is mundane to me. There isn't enough use of colour in this to point me to the main aspects of the task and the harsh brown is not my favourite. Sorry this design just looks clunky and uninspired to me.

The silhouette of this looks very form fitting from behind, but when looking at the front I see too much happening. The neon print on the front of your design should have been stripped. I don't think it adds to the feel of this task whatsoever. The colours you did use though, are very intriguing and nice to look at. I think the use of leather was smart as it shines. I'm waiting for you to step back up in this competition; as of right now you're falling behind. Thanks.

I don't love this all too much. The main feature seems to be the neon print on the front, but I actually like the back better. The jacket just cutting off at the harness and the rest of the outfit looking like one garment is nice. This outfit just looks a little uninspired. The front is too cluttered and the neon paired with more muted colours doesn't work and looks inharmonious. I think you reflected iridescence, and there's no doubt there, but the front of the outfit lacks in comparison to the back - which isn't too impressive either. You had such a strong start to this competition but you're dwindling. I want to see you pick it up.

Though I think the black fabrics are painstakingly hard to look past; they are so relevant in this composition. This is the best use of the gloves i've seen. The palette you've incorporated into your design is to be expected, but it has been elevated with the fabrics chosen. I think you've managed to create a convincing front-to-back design that forms well with the task given. Well done.

I think this outfit is a very gutsy move. That black stripe grabs your attention immediately. Do I think it was a wise move? For sure. I love that black bar separating the two halves of your design, although it looks better from the front. I think one thing that bothers me a little is the black detracts from the main focus of iridescence. However the rest of the outfit is well composed; especially the bottom half which I really like the bottom of the top hanging out the belt with that pattern seeping out. A step down from your past two winning designs, but still a good job this week.

I think the use of the scarf combined with the striped shirt was something to be admired, that being said I wish you gave us a little more to work with this week. The palette is simple and the bottom half of the design is minimal but sleek. I think adding some sort of texture there, would have played better in a task where we were looking to see creative and inventive practices put into place. Safe design in my opinion. Now's the time to stand out not fade away. Thanks.

There isn't much I see here through a fashion lens. I think the double scarf trend can be used well but it adds nothing here. This outfit doesn't really have a unique flare and I find it a little bland for a task such as this. I think from the waist down this outfit is okay, those three shades of the belt, pants and shoes work together but apart from that I don't love this design at all sorry. Don't let this be your downfall.

I wish you picked a different colour for the effect you added on the back of your design; it's almost too easy to pick out your style; brown accessories and green shoes. A trend i've seen in the past. I love the eccentric colours you've added to the rest of the design, the dash of fuchsia in the skirt layering is superb. I think collectively the front and back of this design are cohesive and you've extended your creativity far beyond what I expected this week. Thanks.

I'm impressed by this, even with the obvious comparisons that could be made with Arber's outfit this week - but I know you wouldn't flat out copy or recycle an outfit from someone. I think your use of the apron is a little more clumsy, but it still looks great, I actually think that brown is a good base for the design. Your colour choices this week is quite adventurous; you look like a packet of sour skittles. I also love the hints of plum from both in front and behind. It's a well realised design from both angles. One thing I would change is the scarf - it looks too abrasive against the rest of the design. Nevertheless, good job this week.

I don't like the jacket and the scarf at all, excessive. I like the sparkle fabrication you added to the front of your design. The way the colours highlight one another in the lower half of your design are gorgeous to see. I love the use of the white against the pink. I definitely see iridescence in this design; I just wish the top half was cohesive to the bottom. Thanks.

Calum
There are aspects to this outfit I enjoy. The layering of the back is very well done and the colours seamlessly work in harmony with each other. However it suffers from too many different textures; the soft shawl, saggy shorts and a clean top. It's a mishmash of ideas and for me It's too much. On first seeing this outfit I didn't like the front, but I actually don't mind it now - I like the knot of the scarf flowing down to the print on the top, also there's no doubt you've incorporated iridescence into your design. Not my favourite this week, but not the worst.

The main colour palette in this design is very...familiar. I love the stripes in the jacket, it makes it stand out that much more. A perfect example of iridescence. The back of this design is simplistic and minimal and contrasting against the front with all of the shapes and patterns you've incorporated; it makes it balanced. I admire your attention to detail. Well done.
Calum
I really hate that closed jacket so much normally, but you've done a nice job with it. The streaks of vibrant colour that embellish this design looks lovely. It's pleasant, chic and not overly complex. There are definitely inspirations of iridescence within this design, but the back half isn't too special compared to such a gorgeous front. I think the jacket is swallowed too much in those two blue shades, though at the same time its kind of mesmerising to look at. But this is a fine outfit; it grew on me a little this week, nice job.

That's it for Week 5 designers. We are almost at the half-way point in this competition. At this stage we have seen the surface of your thought process when designing. We want to push you to see more. Below are your individual critiques and photoshoots; happy reading.
Conclusion
Congratulations Icearbr. You've successfully accomplished your first task win. A valiant effort that we could not overlook. We are inspired by your ability to mend fabrics and accessories in your favour. Well done. We are also saddened to see Pandorahacked leave as she was penalized and docked 2 points from the judges in her panel for being late. Thus lowering her score to the bottom. Thanks to everyone for a great week.
