Welcome to Week 3 designers. This week we are looking for your better half. Create a cohesive design that when split in half and combined with another garment; still embodies a complete outfit. We will be splitting one of your clothing item’s in half. Listed below are the rules and regulations you need to know about this task.
-
Pick 1 clothing item in your design, ie. pants - Choose a pair of pants you wish to split in half with another pant
-
Choose a second pant you want to pair with the first
-
We will edit these two pants so half of each pant will be displayed together ie. the cover photo above; Two shots will take place during the photoshoot, one of one half, one of the other
-
Your design will be shot diagonally facing toward the camera, no other angle is accepted, please design accordingly
-
Only one item of clothing can be split in half with another ie. you can’t split a shirt and pants, you must choose one or the other, so choose wisely
These are the clothing items you are allowed to split in half with another: Pants, Jackets, Shoes, Shirts.
Refer to the cover photo above for the final result of the split
We want to see cohesion and innovation the most this week. Please don’t hesitate to ask us any questions regarding this task. Good luck designers!

This is very precious, the combination you've incorporated in the bodice is near genius. The colour palette is so light and organic and I feel this is different from most of your designs. I especially like the pattern you've added to the inside of the hood. This is a step-up from last week, for sure. Good job.

I can tell work and thought was put into this outfit. I really like the asymmetrical streak you've created. Both sides of the outfit using the stripes was great because they match together so well. Also the dark blue trickling down into the skirt was a fine detail that really escalates the outfit for me. The outfit itself isn't anything one-of-a-kind, however I'm glad you stuck to the two blues because you've utilised both of them with a good balance. This outfit looks lopsided for all good reason. I don't really have any negatives, good job this week.

There are so many aspects of this design that I enjoy, had this been a different task this would have been a possible top look. I think your biggest downfall was the idea to use those shoes as your 50/50 this week. The proportions are wrong and I don't think it adds to the outfit in the way the task was intended. An effort nonetheless but not enough of an effort. The pattern under the scarf is intricate and inspiring; I wish you somehow tied that into what we were looking for, for this task. Thanks.

This is the perfect example of a strong outfit, but not working with the task. This outfit could have been brilliant - but that shoe combination? The design itself I actually enjoy, the black and muted palette with hints of vibrancy peering through; the layering is great. But the main aspects of the task are shattered. Those shoes together look clunky and, kind of ridiculous. It seems like a random choice for the sake of being random. This is a good outfit brought down by failing to make an impact with the core element of the task.

You mentioned wanting to step up this week, I only saw a step down. I understand where you were going with this, I wish you either made the bottom darker, to hide some of the unwanted lines, or perhaps used a different colour palette in the torso to break this up a little more. The bow on your head is redundant and unnecessary. I believe what may have saved you is the ruffle textures you worked with in the top of the design. Thanks.
Calum
I'm not immediately struck by the use of your split pattern - and I can't say its a good thing for this particular outfit. This is a great silhouette but I hate the cape; because that skirt/cape combination from a diagonal stance seems to be cropping up a lot from what I've seen. Too much of this outfit distracts from the pattern on the chest. If you had not have tied the cape together with the scarf and showed us a bold split pattern on the front, this probably would have been stronger. Also the greys really flush this outfit out, it just looks uninspired. If this was a risk - it didn't pay off.

The simplicity in this is astonishingly immaculate. I think in terms of meeting the task requirements, you executed it near perfectly for me this week. The colour palette is cohesive, symmetrical and creates a full thought out vision. The horizontal streaks throughout the middle of your design are so matched with the other half you created, a great 50/50. Another great design. My favourite of the week.

This is another great outfit this week. It doesn't have much going on, but it certainly punches you in the face with it's confidence - in the best way possible. The white sliding into the black half of your creation is gorgeous and those lines vertically leading to the cascading skirt design, I love (even if that skirt design is used to death). The orange jacket also perfectly compliments the simple black and white you were going for. This design is composed very well with no awkward parts. Another good run this week, well done.

Though I feel i've seen this colour palette from you before; the design itself is very thought out. I like that the lines are cohesive, the dotted effect was a nice touch. This design showed me a lot of your potential and I can definitely see your growth in this competition. If this is the level you're playing at now, i'm excited to see whats to come. Thanks.
Calum
This is quite obscure. I don't hate it but I have my issues. Using those two jackets was an odd choice but I'm assuming it was calculated and thought out. The mix of shapes and lines you've created looks really cool. Half of the top being exposed due to your jacket choice was a nice touch. However I feel like I've come to expect an outfit like this from you; I don't love the colours you used and it feels similar to last weeks outfit. This is kind of middle of the road for me but I can see the effort of this.

I enjoy how sleek this design sits on you, nothing flaring out to create unbalanced proportions; it's higher fashion. I enjoy the muted shades you used and the pop of yellow. The 50/50 you went with was intriguing; I wasn't sure how it was going to sit after editing, but it works quite well with the zig-zag effect. This is a safe design, nothing too risky for you this week but it will keep you safe.

I wasn't all that impressed by this at first, but i'm starting to like it more now. The skirt looks like a whole new garment it's really quite stunning. I like the metallic feel of this whole outfit in general. The top half of your outfit is a little cluttered - I think keeping it simple would have been your best bet. Nevertheless this is a good attempt at tackling the task and overall I think you've done a good job.

This was a little bit confusing in terms of the 50/50, I can see you wanted to experiment with vests, I wish they were more cohesive. The bottom half of the design is a nice contrast in to the dark torso, that was by far my favourite part. It drew my attention from the focal point which isn't great, but you still turned out a decent design. Thanks.
Calum
I don't really like this and i'm left a little discouraged after how amazing your winning outfit was last week. However as the competition hones down you have to constantly keep up with the rest. I don't think the jacket choice with the scarf did you much favours; the two polar opposite textures just duel with each other and it looks a little messy. The outfit underneath is also nothing special, it's almost redundant and almost distracts from your split design. I really want to see you fight back and show me this is just a slip up.

Fiona
The usage of shoes as the 50/50 was one of the hardest decisions people made this week. It really paid off well for you. It rounded out the design and the difference in shades really drew my attention. Not to mention the collar you created around your neck; that's one of the most inventive things I've seen on the runway in some time. Very smooth and form fitting design this week. I see a lot of potential. Thanks.
Calum
This is breathtaking. You look like the most important chess piece on the board. The use of splitting your shoe was a smart decision, as most would think it underwhelms what the task is asking. I love how the shoes elevate the colour palette you've used. The gradation of monochrome from top to bottom and then the final impact really hits you with those shoes. Additionally that top is gorgeous the way it looks so artificial and I've never seen it before utilised in this way. Keep this up this is tremendous.

This is exquisite, the form and textures you used were in tune with one another, creating a very cohesive split. I love the use of the 2 vests coming together to create this ruffled off the shoulder artistry. I am very pleased with how this turned out; not to mention the colour palette. Very gory and menacing but elegant at the same time. You've turned out another top design. Great job.
Calum
This is a very creative way of doing your split. I really enjoy the two items you chose with a similar fur-laden texture. The left piece almost looks like it juts out from the shoulder and really gives this design an asymmetrical feel, whilst remaining cohesive. Its simple and elegant and you've given me another good design, so thank you.

By far one of the safest designs we've seen this week. The linear streaks you've revolved your design around are nothing but cliche. Though they do work well with the task this week, it would have been a bigger risk to combine polar opposite fabrics to create something 'new'. The colour palette being so simple was my favourite thing about this. Thanks.
Calum
This is an good attempt; if not a little predictable. I think the vertical/horizontal illusion pattern is done well, but I don't find it all that exciting. I feel you've kept this outfit concise and to the point with a lack of direction. It's certainly not a bad outfit, the pop of blue on the shoe saves this outfit from being flat. I really want to see more. Don't allow your outfit to sink among the rest.

To get myself to sleep at night I put my hand up and cover the bottom half of your design; and I hope that you accidentally submitted that. The way the top of the split connects actually does work in my opinion, it's the bottom half that totally does not. The juxtaposition is on the wonk. The colour palette is faded, and I wish you exemplified the task to higher standard, maybe experimented a bit more. This isn't good. Thanks.
Calum
This is a disaster. This split does not work, there is no correlation between the two except the fact it links at the top. Jeans? The recklessly thrown in belt and earrings. I can't bring myself to find a positive in this. Sorry but this is the definition of a bottom outfit.

The scarves alternating and twisted like that; create a strong focal point. I love how the design is balanced between the 2 sides; that's what we intended for this task. The skirts opposite the scarves make this uniformed; aesthetically pleasing. I don't have anything negative to say about this. It stands alone as a great design this week. You have a lot to be proud about. Thanks.
That's it for Week 3 designers. A lot of safe designs this week, we hope to see the majority of you break out of your shell. It's a long competition with a lot at stake; take it seriously. Listed below are the individual critiques we did - amounting to a score that you will see on the progress page. Happy reading.

I really like how tranquil this outfit feels. It got vibrant reds running through it yet it's very composed and balanced. I think the splotches of black and red actually harmonise each other very well; the bright red hiding amongst the crimson, you've done a great job with layering as expected. Your choice to split the skirt seems like the best option here, my only complaint (and its a small one) is that I would have gone with a pure red skirt without the geometric pattern. Despite that this outfit is lovely. Good work this week
Conclusion
Congratulations Barbuda. Very creative and awe inspiring design this week. You bring promise this season. We also say goodbye to antheia-ceres; the queen that couldn't. Her presence on the runway was appreciated. Thanks designers.
